Permanent Jewelry in Atlanta: How to Choose a Studio

By Alexis ·

A single fine gold permanent bracelet on a wrist resting on linen

Permanent jewelry has found its way all over Atlanta, from studios with a storefront to welders who set up at markets, boutiques and private parties. That is great news if you want a chain, and slightly confusing if you are trying to pick who welds it. Two bracelets can look identical on the day and be completely different a year later.

Our founder, Alexis, is originally from Atlanta, and Bond & Fifth now brings its mobile studio to you anywhere in metro Atlanta. Here is the honest guide we would want a friend to read first, whoever ends up welding your chain.

First, what you are actually buying

Permanent jewelry is a clasp-free chain, measured to your wrist, ankle or neck and closed with a tiny weld. There is no clasp to fiddle with or lose. "Permanent" describes the design, not a promise that it can never come off: a quick snip at the weld removes it whenever you need to, and it can be welded back on.

The weld itself is a small, contained spark that fuses the chain's last link. It happens away from your skin, and a small guard sits between the chain and your wrist. Most people feel nothing at all. A piece takes about 10 to 15 minutes from choosing the chain to walking away wearing it.

The metal matters more than the chain style

This is the question to ask before anything else, because a welded chain never comes off for a rest. It goes in the shower, the pool, the gym and to bed. Atlanta summers are hot and humid, which is easy on good metal and hard on cheap metal.

Common permanent jewelry metals, side by side
What it isWorth knowing
Solid 14k gold14k gold alloy all the way throughNothing to wear through, and it costs the most. Usually a separate, higher price list.
14k gold-filledA thick layer of 14k gold bonded over a base-metal coreUnder FTC rules the gold must be at least 1/20 of the metal's weight. Real gold on the surface at an everyday price.
Sterling silverSilver alloy all the way through, marked 925Water-safe and simple to care for. Can develop a soft patina that daily wear keeps bright.
Gold platedA thin deposited layer of gold over another metalThin by design. A poor match for something you never take off.

If a price looks much lower than everyone else's, ask which of these it is. "Gold" on its own tells you very little. A reputable welder will tell you the exact grade without hesitating. We weld two metals, 14k gold-filled and sterling silver, and we wrote a full guide to the gold grades if you want the detail.

How Atlanta studios usually price

We read through the websites of Atlanta permanent jewelry businesses in fall 2026. Prices differ a lot, but the way they are structured falls into a few patterns, and knowing them makes quotes easier to compare:

  • Bracelets and anklets are usually a set price per piece, by chain style and metal.
  • Necklaces are often priced by length, so the same chain costs more the longer you wear it.
  • Solid gold is almost always its own, much higher price list.
  • Charms and connectors are an add-on on top of the chain.
  • For private parties, many set a minimum: a number of guests who buy, a minimum total spend, or both. Some take a deposit that is then put toward the pieces.
  • Welders who come to you often include travel within a set distance and charge for anything further out. Metro Atlanta is spread across several counties, so ask before you assume.

The most useful single question is "what will I actually pay, all in?" Welding should be included in the piece price. If it is a separate line, factor it in when you compare.

Questions worth asking before you book

  • Exactly which metal is this chain, and is it stamped?
  • Is welding included in the price?
  • If it breaks or I have to cut it off, will you re-weld it, and what does that cost?
  • Do you weld the chain closed directly, or with a small jump ring? Either is fine, and a jump ring makes removal and re-welding easier.
  • What happens if I need it off for an MRI or a procedure?
  • For a party: is there a minimum, a deposit, or a travel fee, and how far do you travel?
  • What is your age policy for teens?

Our own answers, for what they are worth: welding is always included, re-welds on our chains are free, and anyone can snip a chain off at the weld in two seconds and have it put back on later.

Studio, pop-up or a welder who comes to you

In Atlanta you can get welded three ways: book a studio appointment, catch a pop-up at a market, boutique or fitness studio, or have a mobile welder come to your home or event. Each suits a different plan. A studio is best when you want to browse lots of chains, a pop-up is the easy option if you are already out, and a mobile setup is made for groups.

Living with it in Atlanta

A good gold-filled or sterling chain shrugs off the things Atlanta life throws at it: summer humidity, the neighborhood pool, a weekend at the lake, hot yoga. Skip soaking it in harsh cleaning products, and if it ever snags hard, a fine chain is designed to give way rather than hurt you. Keep the pieces and have it re-welded.

Common questions

Does permanent jewelry hurt?

No. The weld is a tiny spark on the chain itself, made away from your skin with a small guard in between. Most people feel nothing; at most, a hint of warmth.

How long does it take to get permanent jewelry?

About 10 to 15 minutes per piece, including picking the chain and sizing it. A group takes longer simply because everyone takes a turn.

What is the best metal for permanent jewelry?

For a chain you never take off, 14k gold-filled or sterling silver are the everyday sweet spot, and solid 14k gold if the budget allows. We would avoid gold plated for anything welded on.

How do I get permanent jewelry off?

Snip it at the weld or the jump ring with small scissors or nail clippers. It takes seconds and does not damage the chain, so it can be welded back on later.

Yes. Bond & Fifth is a mobile studio, based in Miami and now booking in Atlanta, our founder's hometown. We come to you anywhere in metro Atlanta for parties, showers and events. Tell us your date and headcount through the booking form.
